There are indications that the company’s new Kirkland, Wash., the facility will implement the Amazon Flex as the new method of distributing packages, that even the customers can pick up by themselves.

If Amazon Flex does prove to be a crowdsourced delivery program, then it could be just what the company needs to reduce the 31% increase in shipping costs it suffered previous year.

Behind the scenes, people could be seen sitting outside a warehouse entrance possibly waiting to pick their package. The facility in Kirkland that will support Amazon Flex is up and running as workers continue to load packages on shelves for pick up by drivers.

With the allowance of alcoholic delivery, and eventually Flex service pick-up outlets, Amazon’s attempt to increase its product range is evident. Of course, we all know how hard Amazon is working to get its Prime Air drone delivery program off the ground. The same Seattle building is expected to handle Prime Now orders (unsurprising given that this is Amazon’s home turf), and one of Amazon’s courier partners is hiring for likely Prime Now positions in Portland, Oregon. Amazon has also been exploring other package delivery options recently, such as delivering parcels via public transportation.

According to various government licenses acquired by Amazon, the location has been cleared to sell beer, wine, liquor, and food. As part of the expansion plan, Prime Now will also deliver hot food from restaurants with a large selection of food and household items. This will enable users to browse and shop for alcoholic drinks on the web and receive them through Prime delivery services.
