Amazon Stuffs Alexa Into Your Browser With Online Echo Simulator

When you let go of the button, Echosim.io processes and responds to your voice command – give it a try. Meanwhile, Amazon has also beaten Apple to bringing its assistant to the desktop – Siri is expected to make the jump to OS X soon.

It’s a browser-based simulator that only requires an Amazon account; once logged in, anyone (with a microphone, of course) can talk to the on-screen Alexa in much the same way you would if an actual device were in the room.

Alexa is an AI powered voice-controlled service, which powered devices like Echo, Tap and Dot.

The questions which the Echosim.io website users can ask from Alexa should be basic questions related to weather, news, information, and music, along with those involving the control of other devices in the home. The device is connected to the AI based voice service Alexa which is built in the cloud and is always getting smarter and personalized the more you use it. “Its simplicity makes it easy for anyone to understand what an Echo is and what it does without having to explain Alexa’s unique UX”. And recently, the company has launched SDKs and APIs to help both hardware and software developers integrate Alexa into their wares. It’s also said to be working on a smart speaker to rival Echo. The new tool – which was inspired by the Alexa in the Browser application that Nexmo developer advocate Sam Machin came up with during a hackathon a year ago – solves that problem.

Which Alexa device is for you? But for it to be half as good as Alexa, Apple will need to embrace third-party integration; its usual locked down approach simply won’t work.

Note that this isn’t meant to be a voice assistant for the web, but rather it is to show users how useful Alexa is, and maybe even convince you to get an Echo speaker, or convince developers about Alexa’s functionality.
