But when you look at this new service by itself, you might as well spend your money on Amazon Prime. Prime Video is month-to-month, which may make it more appealing to customers who are skittish about signing on for a full year, or who’d rather not pay $99 up front. In the second plan, Amazon Prime is allowing users to pay $11 for a full subscription on a monthly basis.

Amazon is now getting into the monthly subscriber business, putting it in direct competition with other streaming services, including Netflix and Hulu, as Americans turn from traditional TV providers to a “smorgasbord” world of pick-your-own programming. Amazon will also offer a monthly option for its Prime shipping service for $10.99.
New customers can now pay $8.99 a month to watch Amazon’s Prime video streaming service, which will include the new motoring show from James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. I’ve been an Amazon Prime member for the last few years and it’s easily been one of the best investments I’ve made. At $8.99 a month, subscribers who choose the monthly streaming package will end up paying a total of $107.88 per year.
Will you start subscribing to Amazon now because of this? They have a strong foothold and should be able to weather the new service offerings from Amazon.

Netflix Inc, which offers a similar video subscription service, could be hurt by the move, analysts said. Yet, finding and developing the next House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, or Daredevil is easier said than done. On the other hand, Amazon has gained terrain with Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle. Piper Jaffray recently estimated there are between 57 million and 61 million Prime subscribers.
For consumers, Amazon Video’s expansion is a cord-cutter’s dream.
