Amazon to hire 2500 new permanent staff in UK

The online retailer is also planning to take on 10,000 new workers across Europe.

Amazon’s United Kingdom boss, Christopher North, said the company plans to add thousands of extra products.

Last year, Amazon created 10,000 new jobs across Europe and now employs more than 40,000 people across the continent, it said.

The online retail giant, which will move its United Kingdom headquarters to Shoreditch in 2017, said it wants to hire another 2,500 workers in 2016 for roles in departments ranging from research and development to delivery to customer service.

Amazon enjoyed record Christmas trading in Europe across the 2015 festive season, and put significant pressure on Britain’s established supermarkets in November with the launch of a packaged groceries service for members of Amazon Prime in the UK. But the company has been criticised for not paying enough tax.

The growing consumer demand for Amazon’s services in Europe has provided lucrative business opportunities, requiring operations to be expanded and massive workforce to be added.

“These new jobs are testament to the quality of the workforce in the United Kingdom and our confidence in its economy, which we are proud to support through our continued investments”. Amazon is now being investigated for tax agreements that they, along with many other large companies, had with Luxembourg.

Amazon created 10,000 new jobs at the company across Europe in 2015, with plans to create several thousand more new jobs across the region in 2016.

Amazon is hiring more computer scientists and software development engineers (SDEs) across its European network of 12 research and development centres.

To date, over 1,000 Amazon employees in Europe have participated in Career Choice, Amazon’s innovative adult education program that pre-pays 95% of tuition and associated fees for permanent employees to undertake nationally recognised courses for up to four years.
