Amazon touts 100000 items for sale on this year’s Prime Day

Online shopping giant Amazon has announced the date of its second annual global shopping day – but only for consumers who have signed up to its subscription service. The Prime Day was launched to offer a plethora of great discounts to Prime members on a single day and after the response from a year ago, Amazon has chose to bring it back. Not a Prime member? Shoppers can receive notifications of favorite Prime Day deals through the app, something many people might wish to do after Amazon sold out of many deals a year ago.

Obviously there will be plenty of other products available and it seems as if this is shaping up to be one of the biggest sales of the year as they really look to get Prime Day to stick. As a result, VP of Amazon Prime Greg Greeley explained in a statement that the company is increasing the quantity of items that are going on sale, specifically televisions. This year, Amazon is doing Prime Day again, and it’s set for July 12th – just under two weeks away. The company said it plans to offer almost twice the inventory of TVs in the USA than Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.

New and existing members in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium, and Austria will be offered special deals across almost all products and categories. There will also be countdown deals on the build up to the day, starting on 5 July and running through to 11 July. We highlighted some of the more interesting tech deals a year ago, but when the dust settled, there was some grumbling on the web that the sale didn’t live up to the hype.

The first Prime Day, held to celebrate the online retailer’s 20th anniversary, proved a big success for the company, with new members pouring in and sales topping any prior Black Friday.

According to Amazon, members throughout the globe ordered 398 items per second during the inaugural event in 2015.
