Investigators said 24-year-old Devon Whaley shot Desaree’s mother last night and took her.
Hopkins is described as 2-feet tall and weighing 28 pounds. Whaley is black; 6 feet, 2 inches tall; weighs 180 pounds; and has several tattoos: “Reep” on his left hand, a teardrop on his face and “93” on his neck.
Investigators say Whaley is considered armed and risky. The shooting happened about 7:00 p.m. Friday at the 100 block of Hampton Lane in Youngsville. Desaree’s mother tried to flee the scene in her auto, but crashed less than a mile away, the station said.
The mother, who was not identified, was in intensive care, Youngsville Police Chief Daren Kirts told NBC News. The gunshot victim was taken to the hospital.
The toddler was found safe Saturday morning, and her father, Devon Anthony Whaley, was arrested.
Officials said the child is now staying with her grandmother.
