In a joint statement to TMZ from the former couple, the two describe their relationship as “intensely passionate and at times volatile”, adding that there was never “any intent” of physical and/or emotional harm. “I endured excessive emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating, and threatening assaults to me whenever I questions his authority or disagreed with him”, Heard alleged in court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight in May.
Depp and Heard, who were married for just 15 months, have been battling it out in court since May, and Heard was granted a temporary restraining order against Depp on May 27 that required Depp to stay 100 feet from her. Depp denied he abused her, and police said they found no evidence of a crime.
The restraining order was issued on the day that Depp’s latest film, “Alice Through the Looking Glass”, opened in theaters. The trade reports that Depp never showed up for a deposition scheduled for this past weekend, while Heard flew in from London to give hers. Details about the settlement were not immediately available.
American celebrity news website TMZ has reported that 53-year-old Depp will be paying his wife the agreed sum which will include the lawyer’s fees, and, therefore, settling the case.
The statement says Heard will be donating proceeds from the divorce settlement to an undisclosed charity.
“Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future”, the statement said.
