Actress Amber Heard is in talks to play Mera in the upcoming Justice League and Aquaman movies, according to Variety.
The character Mera has a long history within DC Comics, making her first appearance in the May 1963 issue of Aquaman.
She appeared in “Magic Mike XXL”, “The Danish Girl” and “The Adderall Diaries” in 2015. She also has crime thriller London Fields in the can. A big, splashy (no pun intended) blockbuster like Aquaman seems like the logical next step.
James Wan is attached to direct Aquaman, which is being undergoing a dual track development, meaning that there are two separate scripts that are being worked on concurrently. Mera will make her screen debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part One, which begins shooting in April. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe. Aquaman is due to hit shore eight months later, July 27, 2018.

If a deal does close, Heard would join an ensemble that already includes Momoa, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller, all of whom are expected to make some sort of appearance in “Dawn of Justice” before reprising their roles in “Justice League”, which is set to bow on November 17, 2017.
