AMC Renews Humans For A Second Season

Humans will get another eight episodes, which will go into production next year. It is part of the diversification of the network’s development model as AMC has been adding straight-to-series orders and worldwide co-productions to the traditional way of piloting a drama before picking it up to series.

Spooks writers Sam Vincent and Jon Brackley adapted their series from the Swedish original, Real Humans, which aired its own second series in October 2013.

The show has been averaging a solid 2 million viewers from week to week (with live+3 ratings), but its premiere episode made a particularly big splash across the pond, becoming Channel 4’s highest-rated original drama in 20 years.

Channel 4 and co-producers AMC confirmed on Friday that the sci-fi drama, which is due to end its first series on Sunday night, will indeed be returning for more. The logline: What does it mean to be human? Can the very traits through which we define humanity (love, trust, loyalty, friendship, sacrifice) be taught? “We’re so pleased to announce a second season of “Humans” and extend our terrific partnership with Channel 4, Kudos and the stellar cast, crew and writers Sam and Jonathan”, said AMC’s Joel Stillerman.

AMC has officially renewed “Humans” for a second season following rave reviews for the freshman campaign….

…. We look forward to working with our partners AMC on season two of “Humans’ and to more Synth-related adventures to come”.

Humans” is written by Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley, and produced by Kudos in association with Matador Films. It’s interesting to remember that Humans was originally going to be a co-production between Channel 4 and Xbox Live, until the shakeup at Xbox led to exec departures and a change of strategy at Microsoft’s subscription service.
