Stamford Bridge chiefs are yet to confirm the signing, which the Daily Mail claim will be announced today, but the Italian celebrated the transfer with his agent Federico Pastorello.

The Blues have been forced to field their second-choice goalkeeper, Begovic, until December due to a serious knee injury sustained by Thibaut Courtois.

Former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia looks to have agreed a contract with Chelsea after his agent said on social media that a deal had been struck.

Amelia, who has nine Italy caps to his name but has been out of football since a brief spell with Perugia in early 2015, underwent a successful trial at the club and has been rewarded with professional terms.

Jose Mourinho is keen to have another goalkeeper as back up to Asmir Begovic, who is the only experienced goalkeeper in the squad that is now fit to play.

“But what we need is a few cover, some stability until Courtois is back”.

Behind a leaky defence, stand-in Begovic has excelled and impressed since arriving from Stoke City in an £8million move this summer.
