America’s 2016 Miss USA Follows Family Tradition – ‘I Am Powerful’

She continued: “We are just as tough as men”.

Twitter exploded when Miss Hawaii was directly asked who she would be voting for in the upcoming presidential election.

Serving in the military was embedded in Miss USA 2016 as most of her family members served as well. In her reply, Hardin declined to name either candidate, instead addressing qualities a president should possess. She will now go on to compete in the Miss Universe contest later this year.

“I think that a lot of the topics that they discuss isn’t as important”, she said in a glittering gold gown. Miss District of Columbia, Deshauna Barber, gave a strong answer when asked about women in combat.

Unsurprisingly, Miss District of Columbia Deshauna Barber took the crown as both the crowd and judges seemed to adore her from the start!

Barber’s comments come after the Pentagon announced at the end of 2015 that every combat role would be available for women.

Barber said she was inspired by her father’s dedication to his service and she chose to enlist in the Army when she was 17.

During Sunday night’s ceremony, Barber hit all the right beats during the Q&A portions of the competition. These beauty pageants may be silly anachronisms at this point, but if we’re going to have them, the title may as well go to a woman who can balance her career with service to her country. “What we need in the United States is someone who represents those of us who don’t feel like we have a voice”.

Barber plans to spend the year of her Miss USA reign promoting her causes, PTSD treatment and suicide prevention for soldiers.

Coming in second was Miss Hawaii. “The army officer said gender doesn’t limit women in the U.S”.

After a commercial break, the show’s co-host Terrence Jenkins tried to calm tensions, clarifying that all the questions are created by the Miss USA organization, the Post reported.
