Former San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson, who served in the Marines, will be the keynote speaker at the annual observance at the Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial.
“We’re going to forgive ourselves”.
KHON2 asked a few Korean War veterans what made this day so special to them.
If you attended the Veterans Day parade in downtown Huntsville on Wednesday, then you likely saw Stevan Bias on the parade route.
“The good news is, we know every single one of them”, he added.
“I don’t really want to be in the spotlight, but they went to all the trouble, so I showed up”, Javorina said.
To help support local veterans, you can donate to Honor Flight Kern County to help a local vet travel to Washington, D.C.to see the monuments built in their honor. He said he brings his two grandchildren to the parade every year.
“From the Vietnam veterans and their families, on behalf of a grateful nation we would like to say thank you and welcome home”, said Weldon.
Many of these veterans of past wars remain selfless to this day, making sure we continue to watch out for our veterans. “It’s a kind of honor to those that served over there and were doing what America wanted them to do even though it was very trying times”.
Javorina said he is happy returning veterans are now treated so well.
“I think there is one higher office than president, and I would call that patriot”. “This is in recognition of those that gave all”, added veteran Selma Russell.
“The experience coming home and being treated like that by people my own age was the worst part”, Hope said.
