Police said earlier that the suspect was transferred to a London police station on Thursday morning after he was treated in hospital for unspecified injuries. Two other women and three men were injured.
The British man, who police said suffered a stab wound to his stomach, remained in hospital yesterday, his condition described as serious but stable. Police said Thursday the suspect is a Norwegian teenager of Somali origin, and that they have not found signs that he was motivated by terrorism.
Media reporters gather near the attack site in central Russell Square in London, Britain, Aug. 3, 2016. “Indeed at this time we believe it was a spontaneous attack and the victims were selected at random”, he added. Police flooded the streets with extra officers and mobilized counterterror detectives before saying the shocking burst of violence appeared to have been “triggered by mental-health issues”.
Yesterday, an American woman was stabbed to death on the street in London.
James Pitts, director of FSU International Programs, said students already had left the program for the summer, and none were involved in the incident at Russell Square.
According to London Metropolitan Police, the suspect, a 19-year-old man was arrested at 10.39 p.m., after a Taser was discharged by an officer, the BBC reported.
The witness, who had been carrying towels, said she gave them to the victim “to compress her wounds”.
Rowley said there would be an increased police presence in London to provide reassurance to the public.
The attack took place in the popular Bloomsbury neighborhood that is home to the British Museum as well as hotels and restaurants.

The mayor said police were seeking “to establish the full facts including motives” for the attack and urged the city’s residents to stay calm but alert. The man was reportedly tasered by police prior to being detained.
