Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Mark Trumbo rounds first on his solo home run off Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Rick Porcello during the second inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, in Bost.

After giving up the leadoff home run to Trumbo in the second, J.J. Hardy hit a line drive that smacked Porcello in the leg. Porcello limped off the mound and Hardy ended up on first base. So far this season it seems that hen the batters have a down game they normally bounce back pretty well and produce.

Zach Britton pitched a scoreless ninth for his 42nd save. Yet the Sox offense couldn’t get anything going off of Gausman, who came into tonight’s contest with a awful road record this season (1-9, 4.80 ERA).

Baltimore Orioles starter Kevin Gausman doesn’t have the gaudiest of numbers, but on a team that has been hurting for starting pitching for nearly the entire season, he has come through in a big way.

Angels rookie Alex Meyer (0-3) gave up four earned runs and five hits over four innings in his fourth major league appearance.

The Yankees’ series is the first of three weekend home series versus the Yankees (April 7-9) or Red Sox (April 21-23, June 1-4).

Porcello became the first pitcher this season and the first Red Sox pitcher since Josh Beckett in 2007 to reach 20 wins when he held the Blue Jays to two runs on six hits in seven innings on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are hanging around behind the O’s and Blue Jays in fourth place. Game times for the 2017 season, as well as the 2017 Spring Training schedule, will be finalized and announced at a later date.

Porcello (20-4) suffered his first loss at Fenway this season after going 13-0 in his first 14 starts at the ballpark. He threw 120 pitches and lowered his ERA to 3.43.

From May 19-June 7, the O’s will play 15-of-18 games at home.

“We get a chance to win another series on the road, which is something we knew we were going to have to do”, manager Buck Showalter said.

“It got me in a good spot”.

NOTES: Baltimore OF Steve Pearce (right forearm) was examined by New York Mets orthopedist David Altchek on Wednesday in New York and received a platelet-rich plasma injection.

The club will play the final game of the regular season at home on Sunday, October 1, with the last of a four-game series against the Houston Astros. “If it got me in the shin it might have been a little bit tougher”, Porcello said.

The series will start with Boston’s home opener on April 3 and will be followed by a day off before the remaining two games are played on April 5 and 6.
