American Legion to host Memorial Day ceremony
The Steve Millikin Black Cap Veterans Group will also hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 2pm on Sunday, May 29 at the Guilford County Veterans’ Memorial in Country Park located at 3905 Nathanael Greene Drive. They chose WATERLOO, which had first celebrated the day on MAY 5, 1866, because the town had made MEMORIAL DAY an annual, community-wide event during which businesses closed and residents decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers and flags. A parade will be at 11 a.m. from Main Street to Patriot Park with a program following. Babbage is the commander of Allen Park American Legion Post 409. Participants include local Boy and Girl Scouts; the Rev. Michael Kirwin, pastor, St. John Vianney Parish; Lakeland High School Band and Chorus; and World War II veterans.

The ceremony begins immediately after the parade and will be indoors at Israel’s Lutheran Church to honor Veterans buried in Paris Cemetery.
-Memorial Day Ceremony: The ceremony starts at 9 a.m.at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, at 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd.
They will be meeting at 6:30 a.m. Monday at the cemetery, and invite anyone who helps out to then come to breakfast with them at the George S. Berry American Legion Post 575.
That again was the case at the Allen Park Memorial Day Parade, held May 22.
If you are a business, think about contributing a percentage of your profits to a charity that supports the families of the fallen, or participating in or sponsoring a parade or ceremony. S.E.in Glen Burnie to lay wreaths on veterans’ memorials at Richard Henry Lee Elementary School, 400 A St.; Burwood Senior Housing complex on Shelly Road; Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Department on Central Avenue; Glen Burnie Improvement Association, 19 Crain Highway S.E.; and Glen Haven cemetery on Ritchie Highway.
There will be buffet meals afterward at the Amvets, VFW and American Legion.
A Memorial Day Program will be held at the Parowan City Cemetery, off Center Street, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will begin around 11 a.m. and consist of speakers, including Mayor Gregg Hull.
For those that have a loved one that rests in one of these cemeteries that is not on the roster, call the legion at 389-9102 and leave a message with their name, rank, branch of service, era and cemetery. The Zanesville High School band will play.
The event will include free admission to the new Midland Army Air Field Museum, cockpit tours, airplane rides and food trucks.

The proper retirement of distressed and worn flags is open to the public.
