Selena Gomez performed a sultry rendition of her latest hit “Same Old Love“, country star Carrie Underwood belted her romantic ballad “Heartbeat” and Ariana Grande got the crowd dancing with her upbeat hit “Focus“. Just the announcement of her name and a glamorious headshot of the country-turned-pop superstar was enough to send them into hysterics. That was the cue for an impressive sequence in which Lopez, also the show’s host, moved with real fire to a few of the year’s most indelible pop hits, including the Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. The Weeknd followed suit with favorite male soul/R&B artist and favorite album in the same category for “Beauty Behind the Madness“. As tribute to the Paris shooting victims, Celine Dion sang Hymne a L’amour.

Singers Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor performed their song “Marvin Gaye” later in the evening.

“This is absolutely incredible to receive this award now two years in a row”.

In fact, fan testimonials rang out over Microsoft Theatre much clearer – and more effectively – than any single performer of the night.

Her ex-boyfriend Diddy even gave her a flirtatious shout-out while presenting an award during the show. While JLo wiggled her butt to the song, Minaj sat in the audience, stone-faced.

Teaming with Demi Lovato for the groundbreaking “You Oughta Know“, Morissette failed to muster the intensity that might’ve shown a new generation the impact her song has had on today’s young stars.

Star Wars” veteran Harrison Ford introduced five-piece a cappella group Pentatonix, who put their vocals to John Williams’ iconic “Star Wars” score, along with a full orchestra on stage.

Singer Sam Hunt won the favorite new artist award, while Justin Bieber, Skrillex, and Diplo won the award for best collaboration for their song “Where Are Ü Now”.
