The American Pie and Vincent singer, 70, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning at his mansion in Camden, Maine, and taken to Nox County Jail, it has been claimed. His eight-minute-long hit song “American Pie” was released in 1971 and was No. 1 on the US charts for four weeks in 1972.

According to necn affiliate WCSH, McLean was transported to Knox County Jail just after 3 a.m.

Though the victim of the assault was not identified, to be classified as a domestic violence charge, the incident must have involved a household member or partner under ME law.

McLean sold his original 16-page handwritten manuscript at auction for a reported $1.2 million a year ago.

He reportedly lives with his 56-year-old photographer wife Patrisha McLean. He has two children, Jackie and Wyatt.

The star is in the Grammy Hall Of Fame and Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
