American Red Cross Helping After House Fire

In 2015, metro Atlanta’s Red Cross responded to 1,643 home fires. Fire officials say it started in the attic. “We feel they prevent a lot of deaths and injuries from fires”.

An AmCare ambulance was driving by the two-story, two-family home when residents alerted the driver of the fire. Five fires happened in Oneida County (Utica, Marcy, Rome, Verona and another in Rome). The “comfort kits” take care of those things someone may not have time to grab when trying to escape their home in the case of a fire.

The Red Cross has provided immediate emergency assistance on a case-by-case basis throughout the weekend, working quickly to help fire victims get out of the cold. American Red Cross is assisting the family, the release states.

The Red Cross says they are providing lodging in a nearby hotel for the two families displaced.
