AmeriCares Team Arrives in Mexico in Wake of Patricia
Colima is the largest papaya-growing district in Mexico, and 50 percent of the Mexican papayas that are shipped to the United States come from this region. “From the data collected, NHC analyzed Hurricane Patricia at 879 mb, a Western Hemisphere record for lowest pressure”, NOAA wrote.

USA carriers Sprint and Cricket Wireless have said they, too, will join the effort to facilitate communication to those affected by Hurricane Patricia by waiving fees for calls and texts from the U.S.to Mexico.
The experts say a monster storm like Hurricane Patricia could form in the Atlantic and take aim at Florida – or any other storm vulnerable area.
“What has surprised us was the rapid increase (in the storm) to the point it reached Category 5 strength”, Lopez said.
However, Patricia weakened and dropped below hurricane force after it made landfall on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
The newspaper La Jornada reported the storm’s strongest winds were concentrated in a band about 30 miles wide – much narrower than previous monster storms. More than 10 million people in Texas and Louisiana are under flash-flood watches, the firm said in an update on its website.
Pope Francis published an encyclical earlier this year urging care for the environment and action and climate change.

“This situation should make us more attentive because we live in areas where hurricanes occur”, Father Rico added.
