Amid GOP discord, Ryan focuses on policy

“That Republicans can be proud of, and that we can go out and win converts”, Ryan said.

However, Trump made no mention of Ryan during a rally in San Jose, California, Thursday evening.

This video includes clips from Fox News, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Donald J. Trump for President and images from Getty Images.

“I wanted to make sure that our nominee, someone I did not know and someone that’s new to governing and principles and policies and politics, was comfortable with where we are going”, Ryan said. “I think the comments about the Mexican-American judge are not called for, and I don’t even understand the line of thinking behind it”.

While he has clashed with Trump over the businessman’s rhetoric and more controversial proposals, Ryan believes that as president, Trump would be more likely to support House Republicans goals than Hillary Clinton would.

“While Speaker Ryan rolls out a swanky new policy agenda in an attempt to offer an alternative vision to that of Donald Trump, Americans across the country are struggling”, said Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., ahead of the release.

Trump said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on May 8 that he was “blindsided” by Ryan’s lack of an endorsement.

The presumptive Republican nominee told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” Sunday that he could deliver his response as soon as Monday.

The school emerged as an issue in a February Republican presidential debate, after which Trump made his first comments criticizing Curiel.

Trump’s mission to discredit the federal judge overseeing the Trump University case is throwing the GOP into choppier waters each time he assails the Indiana-born Judge Gonzalo Curiel as a “Mexican”.

“This to me is about saving the country and preventing a third progressive, liberal term, which is what a Clinton presidency would do”, Ryan said. The two met twice in May, after Trump was deemed the presumptive nominee, but an endorsement wasn’t immediate after the meetings.

Q: So you’re not in the “Never Trump” crowd anymore?

“The comment about the judge, just was out of left field for my mind”, Ryan told WISN in Milwaukee on Friday, almost a week after Trump first criticized Curiel and one day after Ryan endorsed Trump. Donald Trump won and Ryan has to accept that he let him.

“When I took this job back in October, one of the conditions in taking this job was that we put on paper what we stand for as Republicans”, Ryan told reporters recently.

The other four planks of the House GOP agenda project focus on health care, taxes, regulatory reform and reasserting Congress’s constitutional authority.

“For years, Sen. McConnell and other Republican leaders embraced the darkest elements within their party”, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said in a floor speech. He doesn’t really elaborate on how or why Trump would be instrumental in doing much besides making incredibly sexist comments and insulting Mexicans every chance he gets. “We have a different tone, a different style, that’s very clear”.

Ryan, who voiced disagreements with Trump during the GOP primary process, said Thursday he would continue to disagree with Trump.
