Amid VP speculation, Kaine joins Clinton on campaign trail

Former Secretary of State and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told attendees at the League of United Latin American Citizens’ (LULAC) annual conference in Washington, D.C. on Thursday that they are not “intruders” and some may have been here before the USA was founded.

Kaine, a popular lawmaker from an important general election battleground state, is considered to be a safe pick, one that could help Clinton woo moderates turned off by Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric.

Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), chairman of the committee, also said not to at least “pursue charges ‘defies logic and the law, ‘” especially since she met with former President Bill Clinton in Arizona right before Comey announced his decision.

Clinton, on track to be nominated July 28 at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, called on Latinos to “come back twice as strong and twice as clear” against the message of the GOP’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump, which she said is “you should be afraid”. Kaine asked. “Do you want a trash-talking president or a bridge-building president?”

The meeting included Kaine, Warren and another potential Clinton running mate, Sherrod Brown of Ohio.

The former civil rights lawyer is a Virginian, which could help Clinton win a battleground state in the November 8 race against Trump.

Kaine even spoke Spanish during the rally in his home state of Virginia.

“Her and Bernie were good”, Manchin said.

Labor Secretary Tom Perez, Representative Xavier Becerra of California, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of OH and, more recently, retired Navy Admiral James Stavridis have also been mentioned as possibilities.

“Excited, no. OK with, you know, sure”, she said.

Clinton repeated some of the pledges she’s made on the campaign trail, including that she would in her first 100 days in office introduce legislation for comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship.

Cynthia Smith, a registered nurse from Cleveland, was at the event because her nephew is a volunteer with the campaign. “And that’s why we’re ready for Hillary”, Kaine said to the cheering crowd in Annandale, Virginia. After the session, the lawmakers were mostly mum.

Her onetime Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders was also at the lunch.

“I’m trying to figure out how we get them to have Pokemon GO to the polls”, Clinton joked.
