Amir Khan happy to take on the challenge of Saul Alvarez

“I’ve said to them that I really believe I can win this fight”. There’s a lot of big names I’ve wanted to fight but just couldn’t get those fights. Canelo doesn’t look that much bigger than Khan. “My dream has always been to fight the best and test myself and in Canelo I’m facing just that”, Khan said.

Khan goes into the May 7 bout with Alvarez as a huge underdog – a position with which he is not familiar.

The media tour will continue on Tuesday afternoon in NY and concludes Wednesday evening in Los Angeles. “Not only is it a bigger fight in England, it is a bigger fight worldwide, and that is one of the reasons why I took it because this is a global fight”.

The former light-welterweight champion will not have fought for a world title in nearly four years – since he lost to Danny Garcia in 2012 in the third defeat of his career – when he enters the ring at the Strip’s new T-Mobile Arena. Most recently he secured the WBC Silver Welterweight and the WBA International Welterweight Titles against Luis Collazo in May 2014, and defending his titles in spectacular fashion against former three-time world champion Devon “The Great” Alexander in December 2014 and former WBO Super Lightweight World Champion Chris Algieri in May 2015. However, the catchweight limit is only a pound over light-middleweight and fully five pounds below the official middleweight limit, meaning it’s practically a light-middleweight fight, which is the next division above Khan’s welterweight category.

At the age of 25, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico’s Canelo Alvarez, the current WBC, Ring Magazine, and Lineal Middleweight World Champion has conquered the boxing world, captivating fans both at home and around the globe with his action-packed fighting style, charisma and willingness to take on the toughest challenges.

“When I’m in a fight like this when I am the underdog that will make me work harder, train harder. That’s good for me, because I like to fight as well”. “When we sat down and spoke about it he said he thought it was a great idea to take this fight”.

“People are in for a great fight”. Despite the offer of a Wembley Stadium fight with Brook, and also being the mandatory challenger for a rematch with Garcia, Khan believes he is making the right decision.
