Amir Khan knocked out by Alvarez in WBC middleweight fight

“If that’s the fight Canelo wants, I will get some well-deserved rest and when I wake up start making some phone calls”. The weight at which their fight would be contested figures to be a major issue whenever negotiations begin, though. “I fear no one”. The fight was over as soon as the shot landed, Khan knocked out. He fought in spurts, landing combinations and seemingly frustrating Alvarez with his movement.

Although Khan put forward a strong showing in the early exchanges and looked to be winning the bout on points, a thunderous right hand by Alvarez ended the contest and the Brit’s hopes of winning the WBC middleweight title. I was unfortunate that I didn’t make it to the end, but I tried my best.

At Friday’s weigh-in, both boxers scaled 155 pounds, bang on the catch-weight limit. Not that he’ll find it hard to find work, but getting knocked out so many times takes its toll on a fighter outside the ring. Said he wants Canelo to fight GGG next. “[Mexicans] don’t come to play in this sport”. It all led to the crushing closer where 25-year-old Alvarez again showed the brute strength that has now carried him to a record of 47-1-1 with 33 knockouts.

WBC middleweight “Canelo” was the first to the British star and knelt down beside him before the doctors and Khan’s corner came in and thankfully, he regained his focus and eventually got off the canvas – albeit in defeat.

Amir Khan is expected to make at least $2 million.

Ringside punch stats showed Khan landing 48 of 166 punches to 64 of 170 for Alvarez.

Others came away impressed with Canelo’s performance while some felt sorry for Khan.

“Many people talk about my power but I have many more qualities in the ring and people saw that”, Alvarez said. When I’m out running, I see a lot of my countrymen working in the fields.

Canelo said he’ll be giving Golovkin an offer for a fight. “My natural weight is 147 and I will be going down to that”, he said.

“For me, I”™ll fight him at 160, there”™s no issue,” Alvarez said at his post-fight news conference.

Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions told BoxingScene.com – “He sounded pretty confident, he invited Gennady into the ring, personally”.

We think Amir won’t have too much to say about this KO though… Will he fight him next? Golovkin would likely jab Canelo from the outside and soften him up the way he did David Lemieux and Curtis Stevens.
