Addressing a press conference in Tiruchirappalli flanked by three Union ministers, including Power Minister Piyush Goyal, Shah alleged that the state government was not cooperating over implementation of central schemes including UDAY, which aimed at helping debt-ridden state power discoms.

Pointing out that Modi government had rolled out several development schemes across the country, including UDAY and AIIMS, Shah claimed that people of Tamil Nadu could not reap their benefits because the State government did not co-operate with the Centre.

“A few parties have left the alliance presently, but the vote share is still there for NDA and we will get more votes now”, Shah said, adding that it was the Modi wave which secured 19.5 per cent votes for the NDA in Tamil Naadu during the Lok Sabha polls. Shah was here to introduce the candidates of the party and its allies for the coming elections.

On the issue of jalikattu, Javadekar said that the Union government is working towards reviving the sport. “But there were no corruption charges against the BJP governments in 14 states”. He said because of the efforts taken by the Centre the death penalty of five fishermen in Sri Lanka was stopped. Later, in the day he would address anelection rally in which he would introduce the BJP’s candidates to the voters.

He alleged that tenders were not issued openly and that corruption was playing a major role and criticised both the AIADMK and DMK for corruption and sought votes for NDA assuring that Narendra Modi would ensure development. In March, the SC rejected the state government’s review plea as well. “But he needs a government that would strengthen his hands”, Shah said.

“However, the state government wants ethanol for making alcohol”, he said in apparent reference to the state government’s liquor policy.

Launching a scathing attack on the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu ahead of the May 16 Assembly polls, BJP National President Amit Shah today said that party should be ousted from power in the elections.
