Amnesty report: Russian Federation ‘targets civilians in Syria, killing at least 200’
If verified these attacks could imply a violation of worldwide human rights laws.

Of those killed, 598 were fighters from the Islamic State group and another 824 from Al-Nusra Front, the Syrian affiliate of Al-Qaeda, and other rebel groups.
“In the report, Amnesty said it had “researched remotely” more than 25 Russian attacks that took place in Homs, Hama, Idlib, Latakia and Aleppo between 30 September and 29 November”.
Meanwhile, the ministry also announced that the Russian air force has targeted 1,093 Takfiri terrorist positions with 302 sorties in various locations in Syria since Friday.
Accusations of deadly Russian airstrikes have become common in Syria. And there’s some doubt among Western analysts about the accuracy of their targeting. “They must halt all use of cluster munitions and stop dropping unguided bombs on civilian areas”, said Philip Luther.
A report by Amnesty International on the alleged deaths of civilians from Russian air strikes in Syria is full of fakes and stock phrases, Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Wednesday.
Amnesty International says Russian Federation may have committed war crimes during its military campaign in Syria.
Furthermore Moscow doubts the authenticity of the aerial photos used by Amnesty International and called upon the NGO to at least name the sources of the information it had used in the report.
Amnesty compiled the evidence and done the research from outside the country interviewing “by phone or over the internet 16 witnesses to attacks and their aftermath”, as well as reviewing “audiovisual imagery”.
Video footage of the scene after the attack shows no evidence of a military presence, Amnesty said.
The rights group says such action could amount to war crimes.
According to the watchdog group Airwars.org, more than 700 civilians have been killed by USA strikes in Iraq and Syria since August 2014. The strike hit residential buildings in Darat Izza, Aleppo, on October 7, it claimed. A mother and her two children were killed in one house and a young couple in another house. The witness, a local activist, said that no one recalled seeing planes flying overhead before the strike. He said, however, that Russian Federation was less concerned about collateral damage in Syria.
This is the main conclusion of a report released today, 23 December, by Amnesty International.
“The Russian authorities need to stop pretending their attacks aren’t killing Syrian civilians and investigate the cases we’ve highlighted”.
Russian Federation claims it’s forces are operating in conjunction with global law.
“It is important to look at the nature of Amnesty itself in terms of the credibility of its reporting”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has insisted its military in Syria operates in line with worldwide law.

“If they are behind it or if they are even perceived to be behind it, then I think that other parties are going to question the seriousness of Russia’s commitment to the United Nations process”, said Katz.
