However, it seemed like Amoeba Music on Los Angeles’s Sunset Boulevard -which has been open since 2001 and has become a Mecca for music fans – would someone manage to stay the course where others have fallen.
Earlier this week, LAist discovered that an architectural illustration firm, Shimahara, were displaying a rendering of a luxury tower situated on Amoeba’s address on their website prompting speculation that store had been sold.
Public records reveal that 6400 Sunset was purchased in October of 2015 for $34 million.

However, it has been confirmed in an official statement from Amoeba Music that they ‘voluntarily made a decision to sell the property to developers’.
Are we about to lose one of LA’s best record stores?

Though they initially declined to comment, Amoeba eventually posted a short, handwritten note to its Instagram. We’re going to remain in our building for the duration of our lease-which is several years-and Amoeba and the building owner are open to us potentially staying longer.
