Amtrak train carrying LSU fans collides with dump truck in Alabama

A driver of a dump truck was killed when his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train, according to Bessemer police. Friday. Train passengers included LSU fans on their way to Tuscaloosa for the game against Alabama.

According to Amtrak officials, none of the 124 passengers on board were injured.

Woods says the train was traveling between New Orleans and New York.

“We were in the dining auto, toward the front of the train”, Duplessis said. “As the train passed, I saw something flipping, saw lots of dust, and then the train came to a stop”.

The accident happened shortly before 2 p.m. near the intersection of 32nd Street and Carolina Avenue.

A news station in Baton Rouge told WIAT a large group of LSU fans were on that train. Approximately 50-57 fans continued on to Birmingham and were apparently on the train when the crash occurred.
