Amy Poehler Criticized for Inappropriate R. Kelly, Blue Ivy Joke on “Difficult”
Klausner, who palys Julie Kessler in the series, was the one who made the unfortunate choice in using Blue Ivy as a prop for laughs. The scene in question involves Kessler and Epstein having a conversation about a joke that Kessler performed and bombed.

As soon as the episode aired, word of the cringe-worthy attempt at a joke spread like wildfire on the Internet with people taking to social media to express their outrage, slamming the show and demanding that it be removed from the online streaming service.
“I can’t wait for Blue Ivy to be 18 years old so R. Kelly can piss on her”, said comedian Julie Klausner on the show, which is described as “unfiltered commentary on the folly of life after 30 in New York”. You can see some of the comments below. There’s also a racial aspect to the debate, in that some commenters believed Amy would have never written such a joke about a 3-year-old white girl.
Reaction came swift and heavy on Twitter, and we’ve collected a few responses to Klausner’s joke along with some The Independent noticed as well on the following pages. Critics seem to be rooting for the tag team of Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner, as the show has garnered a really strong 85% Fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
“Amy could not have been more hands-on”, she said. She weighed in on production matters. She would give notes on every single edit, not only of the shows but of the promos, the trailers.
Amy Poehler has been praised for her on-point comedic timing and even funnier writing.
@JamilahLemieux “A joke about R. Kelly assaulting Blue Ivy is not a joke targeting him”.
