Poehler is pulling double duty on the pic as well, producing through her Paper Kite Productions.
Barinholtz, for his part, will pen the script with writing partner David Stassen.
Details are few but we’re hearing that Poehler will play a once-promising basketball coach who is asked to lead an National Basteball Association team under the gaze of a reluctant organization and the pressure of being “the first”. (The movie opens December 25.).
Poehler will produce the film through her company, Paper Kite Productions, along with Cott Stuber and Dylan Clark.
For Poehler, this new project comes in a packed year, as she’s hot off the blockbuster success of Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out and is also starring in Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, which drops on the streaming service at the end of this month.
“The pair has mostly recently contributed the screenplay for the Dwayne Johnson/Kevin Hart action comedy Central Intelligence and is also in the writers” room for sitcom The Mindy Project. It will be written by co-star Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen.
Barinholtz is also an actor, playing Morgan on Hulu’s The Mindy Project.
