Amy Schumer Addresses Kurt Metzger’s Controversial Rape Comments on Charlie Rose

“I love him. I’m not on Facebook so I don’t read his insane rants”. He gets something from going after people, making them mad. “That is not representative of me at all”. He is my friend and a great writer and I couldn’t be more against his recent actions”, she tweeted Wednesday, noting, “Kurt does not work for me.

Schumer is now promoting her memoir The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, in which she says she lost her virginity as a teenager when her then-boyfriend had sex with her without her consent.

Over the weekend, Metzger went on several social media rants about rape and sexual assault after improv theater Upright Citizens Brigade banned a fellow comedian from their venues following rape accusations posted in private Facebook groups. “We butt heads. We get in fights because he infuriates us”, she says, describing Metzer as “the most male, you know, like the most out-there perspective possible”. “When a woman says she was assaulted, a lot of people’s first reaction is to say, ‘No you weren’t, ‘” she said. Metzger then apologized for his original posts and said he supports victims, but still has questions about why UCB did not notify authorities.

In the Charlie Rose interview, she added: “I was sexually assaulted”. “It’s been really upsetting seeing someone that I care about hurt themselves like this”, she added. Metzger “baits people”, Schumer explained, but he’s not the real problem. Metzger has starred in episodes of Schumer’s Comedy Central show “Inside Amy Schumer” and has writing credits on the show.

Schumer objected to the fact that “the focus is on him rather than on. the real main problem”. “A book that, much like a women [sic], is incapable of lying!”

“We all need to be empowering each other”. “Let’s focus on actually getting the problem done”. “It’s really unfair and it makes women not want to come forward”. And I want men to hear what happens, so there’s no confusion. “Kurt’s my friend. I love him”. “Especially Jessi Klein, who’s the head writer of the show. There are no writers for it”, she tweeted Thursday.

She also clarified earlier tweets that seemed to suggest Inside Amy Schumer would not be returning for a fifth season as planned: “Right now there’s no plans for the TV show to come back at any time in the near future”.
