Amy Schumer Calls For Gun Control After ‘Trainwreck’ Shooting: We Can Stop

In an unlikely pairing, comedian Amy Schumer and her cousin, New York senator Chuck Schumer (D), held a joint press conference on Monday where they announced an actual comprehensive plan to tackle gun-control laws. The legislation reportedly involves a “three-part plan” that “would reward states that submit comprehensive records into background check systems with funding and penalize the ones that do not”.

“We provide both carrots and sticks”.

“The critics scoff and say, ‘Well, there’s no way to stop insane people from doing insane things, ‘ but they’re wrong”, she said.

Almost two weeks after a gunman opened fire during a screening of one of her movies, killing two people and himself, actress and comedienne Amy Schumer is teaming up with her cousin, Sen.

WITH Amy Schumer’s recent domination of the comedy world including edgy, hilarious stand up and a hugely successful Comedy Central series, it’s not at all surprising Hollywood would come knocking, looking for her first feature. They also are publicly calling Congress to fully fund mental health and substance abuse programs and asking the Department of Justice to review standards for involuntary commitment in each state. 2 people were killed and 9 others injured before Houser took his own life.

The actress expects “backlash” for supporting the “sensible” gun control measures her cousins is putting forward.

“Preventing risky people from getting guns is very possible”, the comedian told reporters, adding she was “devastated” and then “angry” by the July 23 shooting that killed two plus the shooter.

“These shootings have got to stop-I don’t know how else to say it”, she said during the conference, holding back tears.

“These are my first public comments on the issue of gun violence, but I can promise you, they will not be my last”, said Amy Schumer. “I think the idea of women – women’s equality making anyone upset is not something I’ll ever understand”.

In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, President Barack Obama pushed for more extensive background checks for gun buyers – only to see his effort fail to muster support in the Senate. The movie theater shooter reportedly obtained his gun legally. The shooting took place at a Louisiana screening of her new film, Trainwreck. Schumer also noted “we are up against a very powerful lobby”.
