The 34-year-old comedienne admits she even contemplated cancelling gigs in the past because she didn’t feel confident about how she looked on stage.

“It’s an emotional thing”, Schumer explained about her relationship with her body.

The Trainwreck star is known for poking fun at her body image, but in an interview with Maria Shriver on Friday’s Today, she wants to make it known that she is serious about the issue. Standing on a stage in front of people, I can’t perform my best or be confident if I’m not sure – if I’m pulling at something (I’m wearing).

Speaking with interviewer Maria Shriver, Schumer described the pressure she’s often felt in her line of work to always present herself in a certain way to please audiences.

And regarding the women Stylefund reaches out to, she said she just wants them to have the tools she’s been given when it comes to feeling good in the skin they’re in.

“And I just wanted to give it to every woman”, she added, with tears in her eyes.

The comedian recently partnered with Goodwill to establish a “style fund organization” and has co-hosted empowerment workshops to “educate, inspire and transform women through fashion”. It makes her feel more honest, but also proves how she’s matured as a comedian-she’s able to get bigger and better laughs with material that’s a little bit subtler than in the past.

Amy Schumer is not a person to hold anything back and she shows her confidence on a daily basis.

‘The special is me just saying “Ok, I just got thrust into Hollywood and this is my experience of it, ” and a lot of that is about self-esteem. I feel like I kind of went underground, like I was doing a story on Hollywood, and I’m coming out like ‘Okay, here’s what’s going on: No one’s just naturally thin.
