While Ms. Williams’ and Ms. Schumers’ portraits show some skin that might catch more viewers’ attention-as well as convey more of each woman’s respective personalities-the simpler shots of Ms. Smith and Ms. Chen are less evocative.
Schumer took to her official Twitter account Monday morning to debut her picture for the calendar.
The comedienne shared the photograph to her Instagram earlier today with an empowering caption. She added that it was as if she had not gotten the memo saying that she could have kept her clothes on.
“I felt I looked more handsome than I’ve ever felt in my life”. This calendar is so completely different.
“I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something”, Leibovitz stated.
The 2016 calendar celebrates women of outstanding cultural and professional merit, who have been photographed in a stripped-back, black and white style, showing the stars “with no pretence”.
For 2016 Pirelli hired celebrated portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz to capture the essence of 12 women of distinction.
Comedy star Amy Schumer, who has positioned herself as an exemplar of body confidence for women heavier than traditional beauty standards, has posed almost nude for this year’s Pirelli Calendar.
But with brand “buzz” a crucial factor in each calendar launch, there was no guarantee that Pirelli won’t return to its previous flesh obsession in future years.
Other people to feature include fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson and Chinese actress Yao Chen.
