Amy Schumer on rape controversy: ‘Let’s refocus on the real issue’
She’s been trying to distance herself from Inside Amy Schumer writer Kurt Metzger this week after he ranted online about women who claim they’ve been raped but fail to report it.

ICYMI, Kurt slammed Upright Citizens Brigade’s decision to ban comedian Aaron Glaser, after an internal investigation into allegations that he had raped multiple women in the comedy community.
“I would love to refocus the energy and the attention on the real problem, which is about rape”, she tells US journalist Charlie Rose during an appearance on his show, before concluding: “And what’s consensual and what’s not”.
“Inside Amy Schumer” has received a lot of attention for its raw, feminist humor, and that’s part of the reason why people were so swift to look to her for answers.
“I think Amy’s immediately viable movie career is something that she’s going to be pretty focused on going forward”. “Kurt’s my friend. I love him”.
“It feels very positive to have someone in there saying this is from the male perspective”, she said, adding, Metzger “is the most out-there male perspective possible”. The comedian was a writer on the most recent season of Inside Amy Schumer. I – and, you know, I’ve asked him, just, ‘can you just stop?’ Because it comes back to me. He is not a writer on my show.
Schumer went on to say that “they want his head”, addressing the backlash that she received for staying silent on the issue for a few days.
Schumer then asserted that Metzger’s trolling and baiting-while being “the problem, no question”-was really just a distracting sideshow from real discussions about, in Rose’s words, “a smart understanding of what rape has become”.
Schumer tweeted she was “slated for a season 5” but indicated that wouldn’t happen anytime soon. She added, “Let’s focus on actually getting the problem done”.
While Mr. Metzger has worked on her Comedy Central series in the past, she explained that he’s not now her writer because there are “no plans for the TV show to come back anytime in the near future”.
