Amy Schumer Says Her Show Isn’t Cancelled After Hinting at Its End

Although she did come out and say she was “saddened and disappointed in Kurt Metzger”, claiming he’s no longer a writer on her show because it’s not in production right now was an easy out.
Schumer had been criticized for remaining silent as Metzger wrote a series of posts on Facebook and Twitter in response to the Upright Citizens Brigade’s alleged banning of comedian Aaron Glaser, who was accused of sexual assault in a private Facebook group for female comedians. “And you know, I’ve asked him, ‘Can you just stop, because it comes back to me?'” She then reiterated that she does not agree with “whatever tangent he’s gone off on”, and said the show is now taking a break.
Ultimately, said Schumer, “Whatever tangent he’s gone off on, I have not agreed with, and it’s been really upsetting to me seeing someone I care about hurt themselves like this”.
“I would love to refocus the energy and the attention on the real problem, which is about rape”, she tells US journalist Charlie Rose during an appearance on his show, before concluding: “And what’s consensual and what’s not”. “And what’s consensual and what’s not”.
Schumer was on the show to promote her new biography, “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo”. “So nobody’s on my staff, there are no writers”.
Schumer later clarified that her Comedy Central show was merely on hiatus as she pursues other projects. With friends like these….
The comments caused a number of fans to petition Schumer on social media for his resignation from the show, which often tackles issues around sexual assault and rape culture with a feminist bent. She said that Metzeger has such a different perspective, which makes him an asset to the show. In a since-deleted post, Metzger wrote the accused man was “so (expletive) risky that we can’t go to the police to report his many rapes!” Metzger “baits people”, Schumer explained, but he’s not the real problem. “There are no writers for it”, she tweeted Thursday.
Schumer has been a Comedy Central standout since her series premiere back in April 2013, which was welcomed by 1.6 million viewers, making it a record for the amusing network. “To focus your energy on online trolling, if I did that, I wouldn’t get anything done”, she said. “There aren’t any writers for the show”.
