Amy Schumer talks Kurt Metzger scandal on ‘Charlie Rose’

“Inside Amy Schumer” was deemed to be canceled after she tweeted about the statements of Kurt Metzeger about rape but she recently clarified that her touring schedule has made it hard to produce the season 5 of the show.

“We butt heads, we get in fights because he infuriates us”, Schumer said of working with Metzger on her show, while noting his contributions are valued because they’re from “the most male, the most out-there perspective possible”. She pointed out that everyone should focus on getting the problem done because she was sexually assaulted and she encourages women to come out.

“And I would love to refocus the energy and the attention on the real problem, which, I feel, is about rape, and what’s consensual and what’s not”. Like he just – he gets something from going after people, making them mad.

Schumer also again insisted Metzger wasn’t now a writer for her, because the show isn’t now in production: “Nobody’s on my staff, there are no writers”. “And I’ve asked him, ‘Can you just stop?’ Because it comes back to me”, she continued.

“Kurt’s my friend”, she told Rose.

Well, eventually she started tweeting that she didn’t agree with Metzger’s post and clarified that he was no longer a writer on her show. “That is not representative of me at all”.

Schumer responded on Twitter Wednesday, saying she was “saddened and disappointed” by Metzger’s statements. “When a woman says she was assaulted, a lot of people’s first reaction is to say, ‘No you weren’t, ‘” she said. “Let’s all get on the same page so that it happens less”. “Inside Amy Schumer” is not cancelled but Season 5 is not yet coming to Comedy Central.

The comedian then added, “I didn’t fire Kurt”.

In May, Viacom president Doug Herzog said that Schumer’s future with Comedy Central was up in the air since her “immediately viable movie career is something that she’s going to be pretty focused on going forward”.

“He isn’t a writer for my show because we aren’t making the show anymore”, Schumer tweeted. She didn’t clarify whether or not he would be brought back whenever the next season is made, which left a little doubt about how strongly she disagreed with his actions.
