Amy Schumer twerks on stage with Madonna on ‘Rebel Heart’ tour

The Trainwreck actress introduced Madonna, 57, before being invited to join the singer onstage at Madison Square Garden as part of her Rebel Heart Tour.

Before Schumer left the stage, Madonna put a sock puppet on Amy’s hand and made it tell her, “Hi Amy”. Here’s some video in YouTube and Instagram form of the tag-team in action.

Schumer will open for Madonna at the Garden again tonight and at Barclays Center on Saturday. The crowd ate it up, and when she finished, Schumer received a standing ovation.

Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” tour delivered a night of expected controversy, but also an unexpectedly overwhelming sense of joy.

The twice-divorced Madonna introduced the song by describing herself as “cynical” about marriage, stating: “I have good reason to be, but I still am a romantic at heart”.

The show opened with Madonna descending from a cage to a procession of armored dancers inspired by both Joan of Arc and the samurai.

Madonna in recent years has accused her critics of ageism and, when she signed off, she was back to her steely self. Bitch You are in my gang! “I’ve loved Madonna literally forever”. She pushed a dancer off an elevated spiral staircase after “Heartbreak City”, hurled a series of “suitors” down a ramp during “Material Girl” (they then lied there motionless, as if they had died) and even feigned suicide after “Deeper and Deeper”. The Rebel Heart Tour is a celebration of what she’s accomplished, but it also serves as a reminder that she’s content sitting in her throne as the reigning Queen of Pop. She needs a place to hang out when she’s plotting her next potentially game-changing move.

Speaking of resurrection, Catholic themes occupied a sizable portion of her stage show, as you would expect – but always with the Ciccone wink. But here, as she sat on the stage strumming the ukulele by herself, Madonna’s voice was clear, calm and comfortable.

The Madison Square Garden is considered a benchmark for stand-up comedy success. On Oct. 1 the tour will make a stop at the Joe Louis Arena in her hometown of Detroit, and the average ticket price is $181 with a get-in price of $42.

“They should be called, ‘women’s eat-just-enough-so-you-don’t-die-maybe, ‘” she said. Fear me! As visually spectacular as it was narratively heavy-handed, it felt like a callback to her last tour, MDNA, which featured a dark charade that found Madonna wielding a gun on stage.
