An asteroid can be used to build a death star, Expert
Muirhead’s explanation – posted in a video by Wired – says that the Galactic Empire took the hardest route when it sought to construct the Death Star, by “launching a bunch of stuff off of a planet”.

The best way to build a Death Star is to construct one out of an already-existing asteroid, says Brian Muirhead, chief engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
In the universe of Star Wars, the Death Star is both a mobile space station and a weapon capable of taking out planets.
The scientist-engineer is also working on NASA’s Asteroid Redirect Mission which is also the first ever mission that will detect any near Earth object especially asteroids where the space agency will extract a portion of the asteroid, to haul it back to lunar orbit.
Not quite – according to the project’s website, this “robotic mission also will demonstrate planetary defense techniques to deflect unsafe asteroids and protect Earth if needed in the future”. He said that a team could fly by 2025 near the moon to collect some samples of the asteroid, which will be put around moon’s orbit. The NASA engineer’s decision of teaching people the art of creating a Death Star at this time of the year indicates that the hype is truly growing. “Flying more slowly through an asteroid field, yes, you can absolutely do that”.
Instead, it could have simply repurposed an asteroid as the metals and organic compounds would already be there.
Just a week is left before the release of the upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Even with someone from NASA offering advice on how to build the Death Star, it’s highly unlikely that one will be built during our lifetimes.
