And, for good measure, before walking away from the podium, Manning left fans with one last – “Omaha!”. He played 13 seasons there before undergoing a series of neck surgeries that forced him to miss the 2011 season. His seasons in 2004 and 2013 were among the best ever to be complied by an National Football League player at any position. “I finally made it”, Cushing said in a February interview with Texans TV.
Manning’s on-air prowess could translate well in the broadcasting booth or on pregame shows, as he would be able to use his analytical abilities to shed some light on the game to millions of fans.
Manning’s reputation as a person and player has generally been considered beyond reproach, though two controversies surfaced or resurfaced this year: allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs and that, as a student at the University of Tennessee, he sat on the face of a female trainer who was treating him.
Manning, a five-time NFL MVP, will undoubtedly be chosen as a first-ballot selection for the Pro Football Hall of Fame when his class becomes eligible in 2021.
If he was to remain on the roster for the new season, he was poised to make a salary of $19million.
“He is one of the best of all time”, McCoy said.
The conference room at Dove Valley was filled to capacity as Denver Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis reminded those in attendance of owner Pat Bowlen’s words when Manning signed with the Broncos four years ago. “It was only nine months (of working together) for me, but I’ll remember it for a lifetime”.
Now that Manning is officially out, the Broncos will likely try to strike a deal with quarterback Brock Osweiler who is expected to test the free agent market.
And they all said they’d like to see him return to Indianapolis as a coach.
He also called Bill Parcells, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Tom Moore, Jim Irsay, Wes Welker, and Brandon Stokley.
At his peak, Manning did things on the football field that could not be matched. They were winning games. he wasn’t playing great.
All of the responses and conversations “kind of helped me through the last day and a half”, Manning said. I’ve finished my football race and after 18 years, it’s time.
Manning declined to address in detail a recent rehashing of a sexual harassment claim from his days at Tennessee. I didn’t know for sure, but I just saw that he wasn’t the same quarterback that he’s been, even from the year before.

“This is a joyous day, and nothing can overtake from this day”, he said. Manning kept his response short, quoting his spirit animal Forrest Gump as he quickly moved on from the subject.
