The incident was described as “strange” by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), who revealed the exchange in a series of tweets from the force’s Twitter account.

Arash Aria marched into a police station in the city on Monday and was arrested after telling cops he had been staying in the United Kingdom illegally for a decade.

Mr Aria told the Daily Telegraph: “The people of Manchester have not been welcoming”. People are not friendly here in Manchester.

“I’m sure Iran is a lovely place… but we couldn’t find out what had been going on because he just was not listening”.

The disgruntled Mancu-Iranian will now have to find his own way home after the police declined to deport him.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told Huffington Post United Kingdom: “On the evening of Monday 21 September 2015, a man presented himself at the front desk of Manchester city centre police station at the Town Hall, declaring that he was an illegal immigrant and wanted to be sent back to Iran”.

‘Very angry young man, who has been here illegally last 10 years, ‘ GMP tweeted.

The man was later de-arrested following immigration checks.
