ANC wants Fransman to step down

The ANC’s national disciplinary committee earlier this week announced its decision to set aside the Western Cape PEC’s temporary suspension of Jacobs, who was placed on precautionary leave.

Kodwa said Jacobs had received the letter on Wednesday.

Fransman was accused of sexual harassment after he was alleged to have inappropriately touched his PA while attending the ANC’s birthday celebrations in Rustenberg early in January.

Fransman told News24 he would be “taking leave” during this time. “I will pursue all available avenues to clear my name and protect my integrity”.

He insisted that he had not been suspended but merely asked to take time off. Jacobs has since returned to work.

“The national working committee has resolved to suspend him…” However, he’s denied the claims the woman has made against him.

The allegations against Mr Fransman and Mr Jacobs are proving to be political fodder for the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape ahead of the local government elections.

“We’re calling on the ANC to place Marius Fransman under suspension until the investigation concludes”.

The current provincial executive was elected at a divided conference at the end of June previous year, which saw Fransman retain his position but most of his allies on the executive were booted.

Embattled ANC Western Cape chairman Marius Fransman has been asked to step down from the position pending the outcome of an investigation against him for sexual harassment, ANC national spokesman Zizi Kodwa confirmed on Thursday.
