Ancelotti: I could never manage Atleti or Barca

Not only did he beat local rivals Atletico Madrid in the aforementioned Champions League final, he will always be the man who steered the team to their 10th European Cup win.

FC’s Steve Nicol presents a few of the Champions League groups to look out for in this year’s competition.

The Italian tactician declared that; “I would never coach Atletico Madrid or Barcelona”.

And Ancelotti believes that his managerial history means that any return to Spain would have to come at Santiago Bernabeu.

“I respect the history of the rivalry and in the same way, I couldn’t train either Lazio or Inter”. [Ancelotti played for Lazio’s city rivals Roma and managed AC Milan].

“Experience tells me that every self-respecting coach should coach Real Madrid at some point in their life, it’s the greatest thing on Earth”.

“We changed a very important player like Di Maria and two very good players like James and Kroos arrived, and they performed very well. I have respect for both clubs but I wouldn’t be able to coach at either because of my two and a half years in charge at Real”. “I’ll do my job, which is the challenge of winning at the Calderon”.

And now Ancelotti is aiming to deliver Bayern the success that evaded them in each of Pep Guardiola’s seasons in charge – their last triumph coming under Jupp Heynckes in 2013.

Curiously, one of his first tests will be in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.

“I expect and want to win because I have never managed a victory [at the Calderon] with Chelsea or Real. Bayern already know Atletico from the past season, and they have not forgotten”.
