And the American Music Award Winners Are
Sunday night marked the annual American Music Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in the heart of Los Angeles.

NBC: NBC’s coverage of the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals Sunday Night Football outing averaged 16 million total viewers and a 5.6 demo rating. The formerly recalcitrant Justin Bieber continued his redemption tour, closing out the show with a “rain”-soaked performance of three recent hits: “What Do You Mean?“, the Skrillex & Diplo collaboration “Where Are Ü Now” (which took home “Collaboration of the Year” honors), and “Sorry“. The album was released just last month on October 23 via Arista Nashville, and 19 Recordings, which are the same labels she has been with since winning “American Idol”.
Pop music’s biggest artists were honored last night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, including One Direction, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, all of whom scored big awards last night.
Performances from The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, Gwen Stefani, One Direction, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were also some of the highlights of the night, but it was Justin Bieber who really stole the show. He also put on a rather hot performance of his hit song “The Hills” – literally surrounded by fire. World famous Celine Dion, a Canadian native, performed Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour” in French in front of a packed audience at the American Music Awards. Others watched closely as Dion belted high notes.
Another jaw-dropping moment came when Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth performed “Marvin Gaye” and made out afterwards while still on the stage. Lips are movin’, indeed!
But Swift missed out on being named female artist of the year (pop/rock).
Girl group Fifth Harmony was the most supportive, singing along as the other pop stars performed their latest hits onstage. Purple laser lights beamed from the stage as the singer danced and sang for the loud audience.
Liam Payne added: “We can’t believe we get to win awards like this and we are obviously going on a little break now to spend a little time with our families obviously we want to thank our families”. Of course, the Internet tried to make it a beef when Nicki Minaj was shown reacting to Lopez’s booty-shaking to Minaj’s hit “Anaconda”. He also won favourite soul or R&B male artist.
Because the AMAs are based off of fan votes, some of the winners shouldn’t be too surprising.
The rapper won favorite album – rap/hip-hop for “The Pinkprint”, beating out Drake and J. Cole. She encouraged her feverish fans to “find their voice”.

The show began promisingly, with Jennifer Lopez doing several bars of her tune “Waiting for Tonight“, afterward quitting the music to pronounce having a not-quite-straight face, “Tonight’s not about me”.
