Manchester United players are concerned Jose Mourinho’s public and private criticism is having a negative effect on their campaign, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Mourinho conceded afterwards that the club’s supporters were justifiably upset at the manner of those losses, with question marks existing over his continued selection of Wayne Rooney.
“We’re all disappointed because I think we were in the game, but they’ve come, it’s one of the biggest teams in the world and we haven’t disgraced ourselves”.
“I’m sure it will be different”.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to make a winter bid to sign former graduate Danny Drinkwater from English champions Leicester City. “But that’s the new football – it’s full of Einsteins”, the Portuguese added. “It’s full of Einsteins”.
United’s win over Northampton, built on goals by Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford, set up a fourth round tie against local rivals Manchester City.
And Mourinho felt the home side were fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men following Jak McCourt’s two-footed challenge on Memphis Depay, but was happy with United’s overall control in proceedings.
“We still have, I think, six or seven games before that, so we will have time to think about it. We were totally in control for the first 35 minutes and then we were back in control for the last 25 minutes”, he continued.
“We deserved to win clearly”, Mourinho told Sky Sports.
