Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly nearing a deal with a star midfielder they are believed to have targeted.
Gomes is an energetic midfielder with an eye for a goal and he’d certainly improve United’s midfield, but given the Red Devils’ reported pursuit of Paul Pogba this summer, the Portuguese player is unlikely to end up at Old Trafford.
Kovacic is believed to be determined to fight for his place in the team in the new season, but his chances are expected to be even more limited than they were last season under head coach Zinedine Zidane.
The player also wants to move on and feature at a higher level and Madrid and Valencia have a good relationship, from the loan move of Denis Cheryshev in the winter window and Valencia’s recent signing of Alvaro Medran.
Gomes, 22, impressed last season for Valencia and his stock only grew during Euro 2016 with his performances for eventual champions Portugal.

Ever since Real triggered a buy-out clause to snatch striker Pedrag Mijatovic in 1997 Valencia have been bullish about refusing to sell to Los Blancos, with Gaizka Mendieta and Roberto Ayala prime examples.
