Andres Iniesta called Real Madrid players after The Best FIFA awards

Cristiano Ronaldo again. It seems that his success story opens the year of 2017 as he is the biggest favorite to be FIFA’s World Best Player in the upcoming ceremony this Monday in Zurich.

“For the season I’ve had with both Madrid and the national team, for the trophies and the standards, I deserved to win”.

Lionel Messi was the runner-up, with France’s Antoine Griezmann third.

Barcelona and Real Madrid players swept the outfield positions in the FIFA Team of the Year. Unbelievable, I will never forget this year.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future but in this moment I don’t see myself becoming a coach”.

“It’s not a case of what’s left to win, it’s about carrying on, feeling motivated to continue and train every day, to sacrifice and deal with bad moments, this is football”, Ronaldo told reporters after the ceremony.

The annual football awards for the outstanding performers of the game, The Best FIFA Football Awards 2016 will be held on 9th January in the Swiss city of Zurich, the place where FIFA headquarters are situated.

It’s not the first time the six-footer has tried the trick, having done so prior to Real’s Club World Cup match with Club America, the UEFA Super Cup final in Cardiff in 2014 and in various La Liga contests.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, however, missed out on one of the three midfield berths by an agonising two votes, the smallest margin in the award’s 12-year history – a count FIFPro verified with a Dutch-based public notary.

Malaysian footballer Mohammed Faiz Subri won the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal scored in the year.

“There was speculation that Barcelona’s decision was made because the world player award was given to Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid forward, rather than Messi”.

“First and foremost, I must thank my team mates of Real Madrid and the coach”.

Meanwhile, US midfielder Carli Lloyd scooped the best women’s player of 2016.

Staying on Ranieri, the digital edition of Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport published a video on the award win of the 65-year-old Rome-born strategist, titling it: “The crowning of King Claudio”.
