Andrew Gardner: Eagles cut roster to 75 on Sunday

The emergence of undrafted free agent wide receiver Paul Turner spelled trouble for both Givens and Randle. He made one catch through three preseason games. He ended up signing a one-year deal worth just over $1 million to join the Eagles in the hopes of proving that concerns about his approach to the game were based largely on misunderstandings. According to Over the Cap, cutting Givens will cut the Eagles $180,000 in dead money.

The Eagles signed Givens and Randle during free agency in March in an effort to add some veteran depth at wide receiver, but neither performed up to expectations.

Barring any other personnel moves, Matthews, Agholor, Green-Beckham, Huff and Turner appear headed for the final 53-man roster.

Randle’s decline is fairly astonishing. He had four catches of 40 yards or more in 2015, fourth-most in the NFL. Now the former second-round pick’s career is in jeopardy at the age of 25.

Eagles waived RG Andrew Gardner, LS John DePalma, CB Randall Evans, DT Mike Martin, S Nick Perry and CB Denzel Rice. Brandon Brooks is Philadelphia’s new starting right guard. Evans was a sixth round pick by Philadelphia a year ago. Evans spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad but was activated for the Pat Shurmur season finale against the Giants at the Meadowlands and got into the game on special teams. They have to be at 75 by Tuesday at 4 p.m., so they have two spots they could choose to fill if they want.

National Football League teams are required to have their rosters reduced to 75 players by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The biggest surprise cuts were the two receivers and Martin.
