In the comics, Negan’s followers are known as “The Saviors”, and now we hear from Andrew Lincoln about the nefarious group. Noticeably absent from this week’s episode were Daryl, Sergeant Abraham, and Sasha, who were still en route following their mission.

In a message to “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick, Gimple said the upcoming Valentine episode is one of the biggest that they have done, according to E! Say what you will about The Walking Dead, but everybody has feelings about it. Who knew a gory zombie show would be the go-to water cooler topic of the decade?

Needless to say – given how traumatized Daryl’s captors were after escaping from Negan’s group two weeks ago – the bikers aren’t particularly friendly, ominously demanding that Daryl and co. hand over their weapons and vehicle, along with anything else they possess, because “Your property now belongs to Negan”.

Gimple has always liked to play things a bit closer to the vest, and in a chat with Entertainment Weekly he focused on how they plan to zig and zag into both fresh stories, as well as the iconic comic moments fans are certainly expecting (ahem). He actually defies Negan and Negan ends up burning half his face with an iron. He carries a crossbow, which he stole from Daryl in the show, and is responsible for Abraham’s death.

In the comics, this vicious thug is introduced in spectacularly violent fashion as he takes a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire to one of the best-loved characters in the story… repeatedly. Glenn had the bad luck of being knocked off that dumpster by Nicholas, ending his own life but [Glenn] had the good luck of Nicholas landing on him.

The Walking Dead may have signed off for 2015 after Sunday’s disappointing “Start to Finish” finale, but the future may yet redeem our midseason break. Dwight is a major character in the Negan storyline from the comic book series, and he may look radically different the next time that he appears on screen.

As though hoping to head off disappointment with last night’s midseason finale at the pass, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is getting out ahead of our frustrations with the low body count by promising to satisfy our bloodlust on Valentine’s Day, when The Walking Dead returns next year. And also it just felt like we were going into deeper darker waters, and it felt right – the timing felt right, and I just had a feeling of what I felt in that first season, when I thought “Oh, I wonder what we’re doing here; I wonder what this is?”
