Android 7.0 Nougat factory images and OTA zip files are now available

The latest that was announced last May was Version 7.0, otherwise known as Nougat, but it is rolling out as of this writing for Google’s own Nexus devices.

The newly launched Android “Nougat” version – which is now available to the users of certain Google Nexus devices – underscores a massive upgrade of the Android OS, thanks to the inclusion of a number of noteworthy new features. “Any devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program will also receive this final version”.

As The Verge points out, it could be months until Android 7.0 Nougat rolls out to other devices outside the Nexus line. The V20, which launches in early September, will come with Nougat pre-installed.

I suspect we’ll start to see custom ROMs based on the software soon… perhaps including unofficial ports of Android 7.0 for devices like the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013), which Google is leaving behind with the latest release.

Google’s latest OS brings new features like an improved notification shade and split-screen multitasking to the mobile OS, while also improving on features like Doze that came with Marshmallow a year ago. With the inclusion of the new feature, Google will be able to soon bring in VR centric Google Play Store, Street View, and Photos. Do comment and let others know what are the features and improvements, so that they shall decide whether it is worth upgrading to Android Nougat or not.

These are the devices which will be getting the official Android 7.0 Update from Sony.

Sometime this fall, Google also plans to release its Daydream platform for mobile virtual reality.

Android 7.0 Nougat is built with powerful layers of security and encryption to keep data private and secure.

However, it won’t be available on all – or even most – Android smartphones for a while.

The Android Nougat comes with lots of promises like it will make the device more secure, behave more personally and gives the user an immersive experience. “The idea is to encourage the growth of the technology and ensure Google maintains a central role in helping people find things to watch”.
