Android apps not coming to older Chromebooks, including the original Pixel
While there are some apps already developed for Chrome OS, the Google Play Store is larger, offering more than one million Android apps from developers large and small. For everyone else, we’ve included the official list below and Google states that all of the following compatible Chromebook devices will gain Android app support throughout 2016 – no specific dates mentioned yet.

This move by Google will benefit developers in a big way as they will now be able to bring their apps to laptops too. Apparently, users of Chromebooks will have to wait until later this year before they can start using Android apps on these devices. Google is bringing the Google Play app store to Chromebooks, allowing you to download and use Android apps.
Older Chromebooks need not apply… and that even applies to Google’s own products, like the original Chromebook Pixel.
Google’s two popular operating systems, Android and Chrome OS, soon will run the same apps.
According to The Verge, Chrome OS will get native support for Android app rather than just mirroring the data.
Chrome OS, which is what powers these Chromebooks, will still be around. It is worth mentioning that total Chromebook shipment numbers come from combined shipments from all the Chrome OS OEMs like Dell, HP and Lenovo.
At its I/O developer conference this week, Google announced Daydream, its new virtual reality ecosystem built on the Android platform.
As of now, the company is sketchy on details, but it did say that “new hardware” that will support Android apps on Chrome OS is to be expected later this year. Google says it is working with its partners to launch “some great new devices specially designed for Play” as well.

Android app support on Chromebooks will also impact the education sector as simulation apps and 3D games for Android become available on Chromebooks. But it will be “a few months” before we find out more.
